The magic of Magnetic Fields Festival of Contemporary Music and Arts is the magic of contrast— the contrast between ancient and modern, between timeless and contemporary.
Alsisar Mahal, the Rajasthani palace that hosts the festival, is timeless — a living relic of an ancient kingdom.
The festival itself — this temporary gathering of artists and musical connoisseurs — is a tribute to the contemporary. It explores the sound of the present, and suggests what the future might bring.
What connects the three — past, present, and the future, is culture. Perhaps Magnetic Fields’ most tantalizing thought is that the ancient and the contemporary can coexist peacefully — even beautifully.
From 5-7PM on Saturday and Sunday evenings, the #SaavnSundowner took over the Alsisar Mahal rooftop to showcase some of India’s most exciting electronic and independent musicians. It was a showcase of contemporary Indian musical culture, literally atop a symbol of ancient Indian culture.
Saturday featured Disco Puppet and Sandunes, who performed tracks from her forthcoming #NOLAdaydream EP, which will be released by Artist Originals in February.
On Saturday, _RHL and Your Chin soundtracked the sunset, as punters danced wistfully towards the festival’s conclusion.
Together, Saavn and the #SaavnSundowner artists brought an entirely new perspective to a #MagFields17 — a festival already bursting with history, culture, and cutting-edge music. Importantly, the #SaavnSundowner also provided fans with an intimate musical experience — the artists were so accessible that audience members could literally reach out and touch them (luckily, no one did).
At a festival that runs all night, for three nights, the #SaavnSundowner eased the transition between day and night. It created an interlude, a sense of appreciation and and awe for our surroundings.
