Hi Sonakshi. Thanks for taking the time to speak with us. We’re so excited to host you as our Celebrity Guest Editor today!

What’s your pick for Song of the Day?
Actually, right now, because we’re so heavily into promoting Lootera, I’ve only been listening to the soundtrack, which is a complete album. My favorite song keeps changing every day. Today’s song is “Sawaar Loon,” which is one of the happy, happy songs from our film and it’s very dear to me. It explains my falling in love, in the film!
What’s your editorial playlist to be shared with Saavn’s listeners today.
Can it be anything? Well, haha, I listen mostly to Hindi film songs, so I’m just gonna give you a few of my favorites. It’s called “Ambarsariya” from the movie Fukrey; then, there is a new song from my other film Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobara, it’s called “Aashiq Ka Khuda,” and it’s just been released. There there is “Slowly Slowly” from Go Goa Gone. I really like Honey Singh songs, so I really like “Angreji Beat” from Cocktail. Do you want more?
Absolutely!
Rowdy Rathore is one of my favorite soundtracks. So “Dhadang Dhang” and “Chinta Ta” are two of my favorites from that movie. Then of course there is “Dreamum Wakeuppum” from Aiyyaa. And “Go Govinda” from Oh My God!, which is a special song I did for that film. These are a few of my favorites that I listen to anytime I want to just uplift my mood.
You’ve had a stellar track record with the music on your movies, so we’re wondering, how much of a role does music play in your life and film choices?
Well, I’ve just been lucky and I’ve worked with some really talented music directors. Yes, music does play an important part in my life, because I enjoy dancing, and you can’t dance without music! So, I really, really enjoy it. Within my films, I mean… if you’ve seen the kinds of films I’ve done, they do have a lot of dancing in them. If you have a great song to go along with it, there’s nothing like it, so yes, it does play a big part in my life.
Lootera takes place in the 1950s. Do you have any favorites from that era?
Well, to be really honest, no, I haven’t ever seen a black-and-white film in my life and I wouldn’t be able to tell you anything from that era. But, yes, I’ve heard a few songs. There is “Ankhon Hi Ankhon Mein,” which is one of my favorite songs. Then there is… hold on, hold on, this is going to take a while… hahaha… because I can’t think of anything off the top of my head. We’ll come back to it, then, later!
How about any childhood favorites, or music from your dad’s films?
I have actually… I was never a movie buff while growing up. I have not seen that many films, but, yeah, I used to enjoy watching my father’s films. If I really liked one film, I would watch it, like, every alternate day for the next 6 months. So, I’ve seen a few of his films and my favorite, favorite film of his is Khudgarz. And there was this song in that film called “Yahin Kahin,” which is sung in a very Bhojpuri style, so it’s very cute, and very funny. Also there is one song picturised on Govinda, “Main Se,” which is quite forward for its time. It’s a really cool number.

Well, I’d like to thank all of them for always supporting us and supporting me in my films, and this interview comes at a time when Lootera is just about to release and it’s a very special film to me. So, I hope that you all enjoy the music and then enjoy the film as well.
