Hi Ranveer. We’re so excited to have you on Saavn as a Celebrity Guest Editor today!
Sweet. New York, NY – on top of the world. I absolutely love it and I’m coming in September.

Awesome. Maybe we can have you over at the Saavn office – we’d love to host you.
I’d love to come there, I’d love to come there. I’m such a lover of music. You’ll find out during the course of our conversation. Come, come – let’s chat. Ask away.

What’s your pick for Song of the Day?
The Song of the Day should be Shikayatein from my film Lootera. I think the beauty of the album is that there are so many emotions that the music of the album carries, so that my favorite changes with my mood. Having seen the movie for the second time last night, I would have to say “Shikayatein” is the one that sticks. And “Manmarziyan,” but today it’s “Shikayatein.”

What’s your editorial playlist for Saavn’s listeners?
Ok, let’s see. It has to be all the music from Lootera. Well, my most memorable song, at least the one that’s closely associated with me and probably will be for the rest of my life, is “Ainvayi Ainvayi” – that song has been special for me in the course of my career and it’s a very significant song for me. “Jumma Chumma” has a great memory, “My Name is Lakhan” has a great memory; all the songs from mainstream movies of the late 80s and early 90s are the ones I have the fondest memories of. I was completely hook on the mainstream fare that Bollywood was dishing out in the early 90s. I was a big film buff, and I was crazy about the music back then.

Us too! Do you remember the song “Amma Dekh?”
[Proceeds to sing Amma Dekh, rap and instrumentals included.]

Wow, you’re a multitalented man! Ever considered a career in music?
Hahaha. I try and do it here and there, but I don’t think I’m a good enough rapper, and I don’t think I’m a good enough singer to venture there. I think I’ll stick to acting and dancing!

So, Lootera takes place in the 1950s. Do you have any special affinity for the music from that era?
I think you can just pick pretty much any Dev Anand song – the music from his films was so magical. I think “Gaata Rahe“…[proceeds to sing “Gaata Rahe”] – I think that’s my favorite Dev Anand song. That’s the one that is iconic for him as a star, and it’s such an uplifting, happy, chirpy song, and it’s timeless. You listen to it today and it still sounds absolutely wonderful.

Any other messages you’d like to share with Saavn’s listeners today?
Well I hope you’ve liked the Lootera album – it’s getting a tremendous amount of appreciation, which is really amazing. It’s an amazing feeling for us because the entire team has worked their butts off on this film, and Amit Trivedi has made a massive contribution. He really is one of the biggest talents in Indian music. I hope people want to watch the film; keep showing the Lootera album some love, and do watch the film!
